Community and Seasonal Engineering is a small family business located in the village of Lupton at the Gateway to the Lake District. Being 9 miles south of Kendal and 5 miles north of Kirkby Lonsdale. It specialises in Decorative Illuminated Christmas Trees and Utility Hanging Baskets. As it's name suggests these seasonal specialities are carried out at Christmas and Midsummer.

There are no full-time employees, the 'lone tradesman' owner acts as technical and the wife as monitor and bookeeper. At seasonal highs suitably interested and compatible persons are offered short periods of temporary seasonal employment in the form of assignments to cover the work needed to be done.

Throughout the rest of the year the owner and wife work. The owner teaches part time in a technical college and wife at a local nursing home although retiring later this year, having reached age 60 this last year.

Community and Seasonal Engineering also has another role in offering sessional teaching and training experiences. Work experience weeks are offered to local 6th form school lads who might be engineering minded.

Work practical weeks are offered to the local technical college foundation year Electrical Apprentices. 16th edition IEE wiring regulation courses and many modules for the selection, erection and verification of electrical installations courses to the new NVQ3 standards are taught or offered on a Mentoring basis.

Amateur Radio Tuition as a Registered RSGB tutor is offered and carried on with interested lads. Evidence creating work is originated and worked through and offered to colleagues taking MCI management courses, D32, D33 etc and fellow colleagues taking 730/7, Cert Ed and BA Teaching and training studies in practical subjects.

All the activities are carried on as a non-profit making exercise, but at the same time aiming not to run at a loss. Another activity specialised in is the arrangement and leading of technical lectures and visits to industrial and commercial sites where learning objectives are high-lighted by on site engineers to students and members of learned institutions. These activities are carried out with the help of the IEE and Kendal Engineering Society.
